Pledging is the term we use to describe the process of
becoming a Beta. It can be broken up into three stages:
| |
1. Receiving a bid |
| |
2. Completing the pledge
program |
| |
3. Becoming initiated
as a member |
Receiving a bid
To “pledge” Beta Theta Pi you must receive a
“bid” from the chapter. This bid is an invitation
for you to begin the pledge program where you will learn
the fine points of the fraternity.
The Pledge Program
Beta Theta Pi’s pledge program generally lasts six
weeks. During this time, you will learn about the history
of the fraternity and gain a firm grasp of the founding
wisdom and principles that have led us for 167 years. You
will also learn many fraternity songs (don’t worry
if you aren’t the re-incarnation of Frank Sinatra…you’ll
have lots of backup) and will learn all about the organizational
operations of the fraternity.
Becoming an initiated member
At the end of the six-week pledge program, all pledges must
live together in the fraternity house for one full week
to fully experience life as a Beta. During this time, pledges
have the opportunity to get to know each other as brothers
and to work cooperatively on a variety of joint projects.
It is also a chance to brush up on the material studied
during the pledge program and to ensure that all measures
of a Beta have been met. At the end of the week, pledges
become full-fledged members.
